Bagpiping for Services in Quantico National Cemetery
The cemetery
representative will announce when it is time for
everyone to return to their cars. He or she will then lead the
procession to one of the pavilions.
Pavilion
Service
The piper will be
at the pavilion and may play as you and the rest of the procession
arrive. If there is an honor guard, they will be at the curb in
front of the pavilion. The piper may then continue to play as you
follow the honor guard and casket to the pavilion.
The chaplain or minister will conduct the committal service and the honor guard will present the military honors ending with the presentation of the flag to the family. After the military representative and chaplain/minister have greeted the family, the piper can play a tune. The cemetery representative will then announce the conclusion of the service. The piper can then play.
The piper can usually play four to five tunes before the service and as many as you would like after the service.
Once the service is completed, and family and friends have departed, the cemetery staff will move the casket or cremains for burial at the grave site.
